It has a thriving, hidden, seedy underground system of trade and “outlaw” operations, but it also features many well-publicized attractions for recreational gambling, family vacations, theme parks, beautiful beaches, cutting-edge technology research and exhibition, forestry, fine foods, and more. The planet enjoys a mild to warm temperature, year round, and does not have any type of central government. Max’mora citizens are raised on the very dearly-held belief that freedom is the most important thing in life, but accepting responsibility for use of that freedom is equally important. Defense forces are organized in a private, voluntary (non-governmental) fashion. The natives are typically well-armed, even in public, and that only serves to dissuade citizens and outsiders from becoming violent or disrespectful. Max’morans are usually respectful and tolerant people, but they will not hesitate to defend themselves and their loved ones, on a personal and even planetary level–and they do it very well. A high degree of personal honor and self-control is expected of all–residents and visitors, alike. Max’mora offers an unparalled level of freedom, so it is well-regarded by underground networks that would be considered criminal operations on other worlds. Because of that, the networks basically have an unwritten agreement to treat Max’mora as a sanctuary from violence and rivalry. As long as peace is maintained, and activities and operations do not cause harm to anyone on the planet–visitors and residents, alike–the people are unconcerned. Due to its position of non-violence, Max’mora is also well-regarded as a meeting place for diplomatic missions and trade negotiations. Research, education, medical, defense and business operations are largely funded through private citizens’ donations, and contributions from businesses, organizations and governments of other systems that want access to operations, commerce, accommodations and innovations that Max’mora can provide.
